Youth Economic Support Mashinani
Meet Paul Mwaniki Kamau and Mary Nyambura Ngigi, two brilliant and hardworking young people from Ndūma, Sigona Ward. Paul practices small scale vegetable farming on his parents land, irrigating his crops from a hand-dug water pan. He sells his produce to neighbors and in local markets to fend for himself. Mary is a passionate and skilled hairdresser who works from home to support herself and her young daughter.
Paul and Mary met Kimani Ichung'wah on Monday September 2, 2024 when he inspected construction works on the Kanduma - Kwa Logan - Nduma:Kanduma - Kwa Logan- PCEA Kanyanjara - Nduma Road and requested and explicated the challenges they've been encountering in their practices.
In his usual element of indefatigable commitment to youth empowerment, Leader heeded their request for support and acquired a water pump and pipes for Paul and salon equipment for Mary. He also committed to put up a house for the young man and work is already underway. Paul can now expand his farming practice and employ fellow youth from his community. We will continue to support him through facilitation for orders for his produce.
With the salon equipment, Mary will be able to serve more people, which should eventually enable her to set up a business and hopefully employ other young people such as herself.
Now this is transformative leadership that recognizes and supports youth empowerment as one of the ways to help our young people break away from poverty and enable them to support their families and the society in a dignified manner.
