We toured Nachu’s Kianjiru cluster where The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation through the National Irrigation Board (NIB) is implementing one of the agenda four pillars through a pilot food security program that will see farmers get earth dam water pans for irrigation right on their farms.
A departure from the earlier program of bigger dams that were envisioned to be shared by groups of farmers and were costly, this program aims at collecting and storing run off water right at the point where farmers will utilize it for farming. We do expect that this program will change the livelihoods of many families who would have relied on relief food in the drier months. We continue to enlist farmers on a willing basis for this program.
